I've had the pleasure of completing my apprenticeship with Impact and cannot recommend them highly enough! They provided incredible support throughout the apprenticeship, both professionally and personally. The team is fair, always had my best interests at heart, and without them, I wouldn't be where I am today.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need experience to start an apprenticeship?

No, prior experience is generally not required to start an electrical apprenticeship. We're looking for motivated individuals with a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and interest in the electrical trade. We’ll support you from day one with training, mentoring, and real job placements.

At Impact, we also have an in-house training program with our Skills and Development Centre which helps you gain the key fundamental skills and knowledge to have a head start in your apprenticeship. Please be aware that this is not a pre-apprenticeship program.

How long is an electrical apprenticeship?

An electrical apprenticeship typically takes four years to complete in Australia. During this time, you'll work on job sites while also completing formal training through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO)or TAFE.

What is a Group Training Organisation (GTO), and how does it affect me as an apprentice?

Impact Apprentices is a registered Group Training Organisation (GTO), which means we employ you directly and place you with a host employer in the electrical industry. We take care of things like your pay, training coordination, and workplace support, so you can focus on becoming the best electrician you can be. Since 2014, we’ve helped hundreds of apprentices complete their training with real mentorship, on-site check-ins, and a 98% completion rate. So you're not just placed—we’re with you all the way.

Do I get paid during my apprenticeship?

Yes. All apprenticeships through Impact Apprentices are paid. Apprentice wage rates are stipulated in the The Electrical, Electronic and Communications Contracting Award 2020 (MA000025) Award and/or Enterprise Agreement and increase on an annual basis. The minimum entitlements of your employment are:

  • Maximum weekly hours
  • 40 hours per week, with reasonable overtime
  • Rostered days off under 36/38 hour
  • 4 weeks annual leave plus leave loading at 17.5%
  • Public Holidays
  • Paid sick leave/personal leave/carers leave
  • Paid time when attending TAFE/Registered Training Organisation (RTO)
  • Superannuation
  • Superannuation
  • Registration with long service leave fund (Co Invest)
  • Income protection
  • Parental leave (up to 12 months unpaid)
  • Community service leave

Wages are paid weekly by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) to a nominated bank account.

What qualifications will I get at the end?

To obtain your A-Class licence, you must complete all units of competency through a TAFE or Registered Training Organisation (RTO), submit all profiling cards, and pass the licence assessments. Once completed, you will receive a completion certificate and letter, which you can then submit to Energy Safe Victoria to apply for your licence.
